Tayari Jones

Tayari Jones is the New York Times best-selling author of four riveting novelsincluding An American Marriage, which was an Oprah’s Book Club Selection and also appeared on Barack Obama’s summer reading list as well as his year-end roundup. The novel was awarded the Women’s Prize for Fiction (formerly known as the Orange Prize), Aspen Words Prize and an NAACP Image Award. It has been published in two dozen countries.

Tayari’s next work is the highly anticipated: Kin, which explores the complex and enduring bond between two women, Annie and Bernice, whose friendship spans from infancy to adulthood.

The story is set against the backdrop of the American South during the 1950s and 60s, a period marked by segregation and significant social change. As they grow, their lives diverge: Bernice pursues a university education while Annie elopes with her boyfriend.
Despite their differing life paths and the challenges of class dynamics, their dedication to one another perseveres. Tayari highlights how the novel delves into the era’s complexities, particularly within the lives of Black women, and offers a deeper understanding of the generation that shaped them.
Kin provided her with an opportunity for “radical empathy,” she said, in understanding the choices and experiences of the generation preceding her own. It releases May 2026. Please visit http://www.tayarijones.com to learn more about Tayari.
