Dr. Daniel Black

Dr. Daniel Black is the powerful author and dynamic orator who has written several acclaimed novels celebrating Black culture and ancestral memory. His head-spinning works include The Coming, Perfect Peace, They Tell Me of a Home, The Sacred Place, Don’t Cry for Me, Isaac’s Song, Twelve Gates to the City and Listen to the Lambs.

He will be honored with the Walter Mosley Author of Distinction Award at the 2027 NBCC.

His next offering in the spring of 2027 is The Arrival, described as a “kaleidoscopic novel.” The story is set during antebellum America and focuses on the everyday heroics, wit, genius, stealth, and cunning of enslaved Africans on plantations.
Rather than centering strictly on the trauma of slavery, the narrative highlights the creative ways enslaved people survived and claimed their freedom.
